Repatriation certificate (AGP)

Repatriation certificate (AGP)

Embassy of Lithuania in Canada issues Repatriation Certificate (Asmens grįžimo pažymėjimas AGP ) to Lithuanian citizens and current residents of Lithuania, only to come back to Lithuania, if their passport was lost, damaged or expired. Repatriation Certificate is only needed to travel to Lithuania and is valid 2 weeks from the date of issue. During this period you will have to come back to Lithuania and order a new document in Lithuania. Repatriation Certificates for children are reclaimed by one of the parents, legal representative or authorized person by a legal representative.

Cases when a Repatriation Certificate (AGP) can be issued:

  • For Lithuanian citizens who lose their passport or identity card, or if they become invalid or expired while in a foreign country and do not have another valid travel document.
  • For stateless persons who have a residence permit in Lithuania and are returning to Lithuania, if they lose their travel document, it becomes invalid or expired while in a foreign country and they have no other valid travel document.
  • For minor children born in a foreign country, whose parents or one of the parents are Lithuanian citizens, if they have not been issued a Lithuanian passport or identity card and have no other valid travel document (also referred to as a "child born abroad").
  • For foreign nationals, in accordance with international agreements or European Union law.

Required Documents for AGP Application:

  • Completed application form in Lithuanian characters.
  • Two 35x45 mm photos of the age of the person for whom the AGP is requested. The applicant's name(s) and surname must be written on the back of the photos.
  • Identity documents of the applicant, if available.
  • A notification of the loss of a Lithuanian passport or identity card if the AGP is requested due to the loss of a travel document.
  • A statement about Lithuanian citizenship if the AGP is requested instead of a lost or expired identity document (more than six months expired).

Required Documents for AGP for a child born abroad:

  • Completed application form in Lithuanian characters.
  • Two 35x45 mm photos of the age of the child for whom the AGP is requested. The child’s name and surname must be written on the back of the photos.
  • Identity and Lithuanian citizenship documents of the child's parents or one parent.
  • A Lithuanian-issued birth certificate. If birth certificate issued by Canadian authorities, it must be authentificated by an Apostille.

Identification Requirement for Issuing the AGP: The person must be personally identified when issuing the AGP. There are two ways to submit the documents and collect the AGP:

  1. In person: Submit the documents in person at the Embassy in Ottawa at a pre-scheduled time, and the AGP will be issued immediately. Upon completion of the application, the AGP can be sent by mail.
  2. By mail: Submit the documents by mail. The applicant must collect the issued AGP personally from the consular office.

AGP for Minors:

  • Documents for issuing AGP for a minor child must be submitted by the child’s parents, legal guardians, or authorized representatives.
  • The AGP issued to a minor child must be collected by one of the parents, legal guardians, or authorized representatives.
  • Minor children (except infants under 1 year old) must come to the consular office accompanied by one parent, legal guardian, or authorized representative. When collecting the AGP for a child born abroad, the accompanying parent or guardian must sign an information notice, and a copy will be provided along with the AGP.

Remote AGP Issuance

  • The application for the AGP and required documents can be submitted in person at the consular office, through an honorary consular officer, or remotely (via registered mail, courier, or email).
  • If documents are submitted remotely, the applicant must personally come to the consular office to collect the AGP. If they are unable to do so due to objective reasons (illness, disability, border crossing restrictions, etc.), identity verification and document review can be done remotely, and the AGP will be sent by a secure method at the applicant's expense.
  • The application should be submitted no earlier than two months before the planned trip. In certain cases, an AGP with an extended validity (up to 45 calendar days) can be issued if the trip lasts longer than 15 calendar days or in other special circumstances.
  • A minor who has reached the age of 16 can submit the AGP application and documents individually.
