Ambassador E. Meilūnas and the Speaker of the House of Commons discuss strengthening Canada-Lithuania bilateral cooperation and support to Ukraine

On the 25th of February, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Canada Egidijus Meilūnas met with the Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons Greg Fergus.

The meeting focused on the strengthening of Lithuania-Canada bilateral relations and parliamentary ties, and the need for further cooperation in support to Ukraine. The Ambassador thanked the Speaker of the House of Commons for Canada's contribution to the security of the Baltic Sea region, including the deployment of the NATO Forward Presence Battalion in Latvia.

"Lithuania and Canada are close NATO partners, working to ensure peace and security in the Euro-Atlantic region. Changing geopolitical situation opens up new opportunities for cooperation between Canada and Lithuania, both to strengthen economic and trade ties and to work closely together in the fields of defence, security and the promotion of democratic values," said Ambassador Meilūnas.

The Speaker of the House of Commons noted that Canada considers Lithuania and other Baltic States as important partners in Europe. "We are ready to strengthen our cooperation with Lithuania," said Mr. Fergus.
