Declaring departure from Lithuania
Declaration of Departure from Lithuania
Lithuanian citizens and foreign nationals holding a Lithuanian residence permit must declare their departure if they leave Lithuania for more than six months.
The departure of minor children must be declared by their parents or legal guardians.
The declaration of departure must be submitted before leaving Lithuania online or at a local municipal office (seniūnija). However, if you already left Lithuania, you can still declare your departure online or through the embassy.
How to Declare Your Departure
You may declare your departure in one of the following ways:
- Before leaving Lithuania – at a local municipal office (seniūnija);
- Online – via the E-Government Gateway (if you use Lithuanian online banking or have a Lithuanian ID card with an electronic signature);
- In person at the embassy (appointment required);
- By mail – send a completed and signed Departure Declaration Form and a copy of your valid identity document (Lithuanian passport, ID card or residence permit). Declarations sent by email are not accepted.
Required Documents
When declaring departure at the embassy, please provide:
- A completed Departure Declaration Form in Lithuanian (filled out at the Embassy or sent by mail);
- A valid Lithuanian passport or identity card, or a Lithuanian residence permit. If the declaration form is submitted by mail, a copy of a valid identity document/residence permit must be provided.
- For Minors:
- The minor must have a valid passport or identity card;
- The parent or legal guardian submitting the declaration must also present their own valid ID;
- Guardians must provide documents proving guardianship or legal representation.
Important Information
Under Lithuanian law, a minor’s permanent residence is considered to be the same as their parents’ or legal guardians’ residence.
If a minor Lithuanian citizen is living with you in Canada and their departure from Lithuania has not been declared, a separate declaration must be submitted in the child’s name, together with the child’s passport or ID card.
