Award for the Canadian Lithuanian Youth Association
The 50th anniversary of the Canadian Lithuanian Youth Association (CLYA) was solemnly marked in Toronto. The event was attended by members of the association, former leaders and board members, supporters, and representatives of other organizations.
Lithuania’s Ambassador to Canada, Egidijus Meilūnas, conveyed to the CLYA community the greetings of Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kęstutis Budrys, and appreciation for five decades of active work.
“From the very beginning, CLYA has been an active supporter of Lithuania’s struggle for freedom. The association’s members promoted Lithuania’s fight for independence and rallied support for the country after it regained its independence. This mission remains relevant today – your work serves as a bridge connecting the historic struggle for Lithuania’s freedom with today’s challenges,” the Minister’s greeting stated.
For its significant contributions to Lithuania’s independence and efforts to preserve Lithuanian identity in Canada, the CLYA was awarded the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania’s honorary medal “For the Merits of Lithuanians Worldwide to Lithuania.”
