BARCLAYS SETS UP IT CENTRE IN LITHUANIA
According to the agreement, Barclays will ensure the performance of the technology centre for minimum 5 years and will employ at least 250 highly-skilled technology professionals by the end of 2011. The Government of Lithuania will subsidise the newly established jobs.
Barclays expects to launch the technology centre in Vilnius by the beginning of 2010 summer. The centre plans to settle in the new business centre “Green Hall” in Vilnius.
Barclays Technology Centre in Vilnius will be one of 4 company’s strategic centres providing services for Barclays global retail and commercial banking activities, supporting 49 million retail and corporate customers in 28 countries. Barclays centres are also settled in India, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
According to Barclays officials, Lithuania (Vilnius) was chosen as an attractive location because of its strong talent pool of highly-skilled technology professionals, as well as its world-class infrastructure. Barclays hopes for a lasting and productive partnership with the Government of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Development Agency.
The Lithuanian Development Agency has been assisting Barclays in acquiring necessary information and data on the Lithuanian market as well as establishing a business contact network.
