Commemorating the International Holocaust Remembrance Day in Ottawa

On January 27, 2023 Ambassador of Lithuania to Canada Darius Skusevičius participated in the official commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day held at The National Holocaust Monument in Ottawa.

Prime Minister of Canada, Members of Parliament, Ambassadors from Israel, the USA and Germany as well as the representatives of the Jewish organizations delivered their remarks at the event.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is commemorated since 2005, when the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution condemning all forms of religious intolerance, incitement, harassment or violence based on ethnic origin or religious belief. The resolution designated January 27th as the annual International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. Exactly on this day in 1945 the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was liberated.
