Event in Toronto Expressed Unwavering Solidarity with Ukraine

On March 6, an event in support of Ukraine took place in Toronto at the Lithuanian House. The event featured a concert showcasing talented artists, the opening of the exhibition “Unissued Diplomas,” and a fundraising initiative to support Ukraine in its fight against brutal Russian aggression.

In his opening speech, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Canada, Egidijus Meilūnas, emphasized that NATO leaders at last year’s summit in Washington identified Russia as the most significant and direct threat to all 32 allied countries. He stated:

"Today, it is Ukraine that is defending us all from that threat and paying a huge price for this. Russians are brutally murdering and torturing innocent civilians, kidnapping children, destroying hospitals and schools, and relentlessly shelling Ukrainian cities, towns, and villages. Their cruelty is unimaginable and knows no limits.

Today, we must be clear and honest: it is we who owe Ukraine an immense debt of gratitude for protecting us from evil. It is we who must enhance our support for Ukraine, our defender."

Consul General of Ukraine, Oleh Nikolenko, expressed gratitude for the solidarity with Ukraine, while the President of the Lithuanian Canadian Community, Kazimieras Deksnys, reaffirmed the unwavering support of Lithuanians in Canada for Ukraine.

During the event, the exhibition “Unissued Diplomas” was opened, presenting the tragic stories of Ukrainian students who were killed by Russian forces during the ongoing aggression.

The concert featured young talents Zlata Barchuk,  Yuliia Krzyzhanivska, Sophia Chen, and Spra Sato-Mound, as well as violinists Atis Bankas and Jonathan Tortolano. Musical performances were also delivered by Two Families Band, Organic Balkan Band, and The Undercovers.

The event was organized by artist Atis Bankas and supported by the Lithuanian House in Toronto, Music Niagara Festival 2025, the Embassy of Lithuania in Canada, the Lithuanian Canadian Community, Business Women Pro Canada, and the Toronto Lithuanian Canadian Community.
