FDI PROJECTS IN LITHUANIA IN 2010: A YEAR OF GREAT SUCCESS

Latest figures by FDImarkets.com investment monitor show that Lithuania attracted by 10 % more FDI projects in January-November 2010, in comparison with the same period last year.

A total of 31 new investment projects have been launched in 2010 in Lithuania, bringing by almost 16 % more capital than last year. It is expected that more than 3400 new jobs will be created on the market in the next few years. In comparison, FDImarkets.com tracked 28 FDI projects which created 5300 new jobs in Lithuania in 2009.

Following Western Union's as well as Barclays Bank's success in Lithuania, the newest FDI projects are those of the Indian company Ideal Invent Technologies Pvt Ltd, specializing in information technologies (IT) in the banking sector, as well as the Irish air company Ryanair.

Ideal Invent Technologies is establishing a Scientific Research and Technology Development Centre in Lithuania which will start its operations in the capital city Vilnius already this year. The company intends to invest nearly EUR 1 million and employ 110 people in the coming 3 years.

Ryanair after launching its first Central European operations base in Kaunas Airport in May is planning to transfer part of its operations from Marseille of France to the successfully operating base in Kaunas. The company intends to invest more than EUR 100 million and employ up to 350 people.
