IN VIENNA, LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER WILL TAKE PART IN THE OSCE PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY AND WILL OPEN AN EXHIBITION DEDICATED TO THE LITHUANIAN LANGUAGE
On 24 February in Vienna, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis will participate in the 10th winter meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly
and will discuss relevant OSCE issues with senior officials of the organization, and will open an exhibition dedicated to the Lithuanian language.At the Parliamentary Assembly, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office will acquaint the participants to the Assembly with results of his activities and visits to the OSCE countries during the first two months in office.
Minister A.Ažubalis will meet with President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Petros Efthymiou and Tibor Tóth, the Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly consists of 320 parliamentarians from the OSCE participating States. The primary task of the Parliamentary Assembly is to ensure inter-parliamentary dialogue of the OSCE participating States. The winter meetings of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly are held in Vienna at the beginning of each year and last no longer than three days.
On the same day, the Minister will open an exhibition “The Lithuanian Language Perception: an old language of modern communication” at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The exhibition aims to encourage a deeper look through the Lithuanian language to Lithuania, its people and main values.
The visitors of the exhibition will learn about the place of the Lithuanian language on the world’s language tree chart, its social evolution and the history of writing. Attention shall be given to multilingualism in Lithuania – the upholding of the speech and writing of national minorities.
