The most important interwar international treaties of Lithuania, the fate of which had been unknown for more than 80 years, were returned to Lithuania on July 1, 2021. During the ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the most important documents of the archive of interwar Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, assumed to be lost for decades, were handed to the Lithuanian Central State Archives. Consul General of Lithuania to Canada Vytautas Jonas Gylys preserved the documents since 1939. The recovered documents include the originals of the most important international treaties signed by Lithuania: peace treaty between Lithuania and Soviet Russia, agreements between Lithuania and Latvia from 1922 until 1925, Treaty of good-understanding and cooperation (Baltic Entente) signed between Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia on September 12, 1934 in Geneva, and many more.
The transfer of unique archival documents of national significance, preserved by Vytautas Jonas Gylys, private individuals and the Lithuanian community of Canada, was initiated and coordinated by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Canada, the Lithuanian Museum-Archives of Canada, and the Lithuanian community of Canada.
