Lithuania in Winterlude of Canada
The Embassy of Lithuania in collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union to Canada and the Embassies of EU Member States are proud to present 30-block ice sculpture featuring everyday objects emblematic of EU Member States at ByWard market (Near Ottawa city sign).
The Ice block from Lithuania holds the basketball signed by Lithuanian Toronto "Raptors" player Jonas Valanciunas. Also, a doll designed and dressed by D. Staskevičius in national lithuanian clothing.
In addition there is DVD of movie "Utterly alone", this story is based on real events about Juozas Lukša (code name Daumantas), a Lithuanian partisan who fought against the Soviet occupation of Lithuania in the years immediately following World War II. The film is set in 1950–51 and shot in black and white.
As well other attributes of Lithuania – a small flag of Lithuania, a game card set and a flask.
At the end of Winterlude, or depending on Mother Nature's mood swings, people will also have the chance to dig out the objects and keep them as souvenirs.
This year EU also celebrating another extraordinary journey: the euro's milestone 20th anniversary. Since January 1st, 2015, Euro became the official currency in Lithuania, too. Today, the Euro is the currency of 19 EU countries and over 340 million Europeans.
