LITHUANIA UP 6 PLACES IN THE GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS REPORT
According to the Global Competitiveness Report 2010-2011 released by World Economic Forum, Lithuania has moved six positions up this year now ranking 47th among 139 countries in the world. The level of higher education (25th in the world) as well as IT literacy (33rd) have been scored best.
"Increasing competitiveness of the country and economic growth make the case for optimism. Much as still remains to be done, it is obvious that we are slowly climbing from the crisis. We will continue to focus on Lithuania's attractiveness to foreign investors, and I am particularly pleased to note that the level of education of the Lithuanian population is highly appreciated on global scale, "- said Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius.
Neighbouring Estonia has gone up from33rd to 35th position, while Latvia has come down from 68 to 70 in the same list. Switzerland has remained world's most competitive country, Sweden went up to take the second place, and Singapore has retained its third place. The U.S. has dropped from the second to the fourth this year. Germany went up from the seventh to the fifth place.
