Lithuanian Consulate Opens in Manitoba, Canada
As Lithuania continues to strengthen and expand its ties with Canada, a Lithuanian Honorary Consulate has opened in Winnipeg, the capital of the Province of Manitoba. This is Lithuania's fifth honorary consulate in Canada. The consulate is headed by Honorary Consul Adrian Vannahme, whose work will contribute to the development of bilateral economic relations, the strengthening of business and scientific cooperation, and support for the Lithuanian community in the region.
The new Honorary Consul is a well-known business leader in Manitoba with strong connections to the province's business, political, cultural, and academic communities. He is a member of the leadership team at Reclay, an environmental solutions consulting company with an office in Winnipeg, and is also a member of the Manitoba and Winnipeg Chambers of Commerce, as well as several other business associations.
Mr. Vannahme also brings extensive experience in the public sector. He previously served as Chief of Staff to Manitoba's Minister of Environment and as Director of the Climate Office. At the German Federal Foreign Office, he was responsible for Germany's economic partnership with Ukraine, as well as other international cooperation initiatives.
Manitoba, located in central Canada, is home to approximately 1.5 million people. Its economy is highly diversified, with key sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, life sciences, health technologies, biotechnology, and clean energy. In 2024, the province's nominal gross domestic product reached approximately EUR 60 billion (CAD 95 billion).
Manitoba is also Canada's second-largest province for the manufacturing of pharmaceutical and medical products. More than 97 percent of its electricity is generated from renewable energy sources, and the province continues to invest heavily in wind and solar power, as well as emerging technologies, including hydrogen production.
One of the primary objectives of Lithuania's Honorary Consul in Manitoba will be to capitalize on the growing potential for bilateral economic cooperation, promote business and academic partnerships, and strengthen ties with the Lithuanian community in the province.
According to official statistics, approximately 1,300 people of Lithuanian descent live in Manitoba, while the Lithuanian community across Canada numbers around 60,000.
Lithuanian honorary consulates also operate in Toronto (Ontario), Montreal (Quebec), Calgary (Alberta), and Vancouver (British Columbia).
