LITHUANIAN PARLIAMENTARIAN VISITS OTTAWA
Paulius Saudargas, member of the ruling coalition party Homeland Union (Conservatives)-Lithuanian Christian Democrats, was in Ottawa on March 10, 2009 for meetings at the Canadian Parliament. During his working visit, he met with fellow parliamentarians to discuss questions of mutual interest to Lithuania and Canada: Afghanistan, energy security, Eastern partnership, EU-Canada economic partnership, interparliamentary relations.
Mr. Saudargas also provided information about the upcoming annual session of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly, which will be held this year on June 29-July 3 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Meetings were held with the Honourable Peter van Loan, Minister of Public Safety; Members of Parliament – Jim Abbott, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Cooperation; Leon Benoit, Chair, Canadian NATO Parliamentary Association, also Natural Resources Committee; Ed Fast (Abbotsford, B.Columbia); Deepak Obhrai, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs; David Tilson, President, Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association and Executive Secretary Phillipe Mela; Maurice Vellacott (Saskatoon-Wanuskevin, Saskatchewan).
P.Saudargas, elected to the Lithuanian Seimas last year, also spoke at Lithuanian-Canadian community events in Toronto and Hamilton, organized for March 11th, the Day of Restoration of Lithuanian independence.
