Medals of Honor “For Merits to Lithuania of World Lithuanians” Awarded to Teachers of Lithuanian Schools in Canada
On the occasion of the conference of Lithuanian schools in Canada, Egidijus Meilūnas, Ambassador of Lithuania to Canada, presented awards from the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: the Medal of Honor “For Merits to Lithuania of World Lithuanians” to Rima Žemaitytė-De Iuliis (a long-time teacher at the Toronto Lithuanian “Maironis” School and an active promoter of Lithuanian culture), and to Vida Angelė Stanevičienė (a former long-time teacher at the “Maironis” School, head of the Hamilton Lithuanian School, and Vice-Chair of the Lithuanian Canadian Community for Education).
While presenting the awards, the Ambassador noted that attention to the children and youth of the diaspora is one of the priorities of Lithuania’s diaspora policy. “Your dedication to Lithuanian education deserves the highest respect and gratitude,” said Ambassador Egidijus Meilūnas.
