MICROSOFT INNOVATION CENTRE OPENED IN KAUNAS

A Microsoft innovation centre was opened in Kaunas on 29 April. Established in Kaunas Science and Technology Park Technopolis, the centre will conduct research programmes intended for students, scientific establishments and start-ups.  

“Innovations are the cornerstone of the country’s economic competitiveness in the international market. Investments in this area are directed towards places known for highly-qualified specialists, good conditions for cooperation between science and business representatives. The innovation centre is a place where technology and innovation come together,” Mindaugas Glodas, general manager of IT company Microsoft Lietuva, said, addressing public, business and academic sector representatives attending a conference.

The Microsoft innovation centre, in association with partners and academic establishments, will conduct exploratory and applied IT projects. They will help information technology students to improve their knowledge and skills. Direct investments in the Microsoft innovation centre in Kaunas in the coming three years will amount to over LTL 0.5 million.

Projects implemented by the Microsoft innovation centre include encouragement of start-ups within the framework of the BizSpark programme, providing them with the most necessary resources. Businesspeople receive assistance in the form of software and software support. Participation in the BizSpark programme helps one become part of the Microsoft ecosystem and draw the attention of potential investors, partners and customers.
