Riflemen’s Union Platoon Reestablished in Canada
On January 13, 2026, in Toronto, at the Parish of the Resurrection, the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union platoon in Canada was reestablished. This is a significant step in strengthening the unity of the Lithuanian diaspora and maintaining a living connection with Lithuania.
The historic ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Canada, Egidijus Meilūnas, who emphasized the importance of the Riflemen’s Union for the civic spirit and continuity of the nation.
Tomas Aleksandravičius was appointed as the platoon commander, and Joris Meiklejohn as the deputy commander. Their leadership has already brought together the first like-minded members: more than 10 Lithuanians in Toronto and 6 in Vancouver have expressed a desire to join the Riflemen’s Union.
The Riflemen in Canada aim to unite the Lithuanian diaspora community and contribute to the continuity of the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union. Primarily, this involves supporting the activities of the Training Center, strengthening education, research, organizational and project assistance, and fostering civic awareness and community resilience.
This work opens opportunities for Lithuanians living in Canada to engage meaningfully, act in accordance with the values of the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union, while respecting Canadian laws and the needs of local communities. It is a responsible, transparent, and long-term commitment that strengthens the bridges between Lithuania and its diaspora.
The revival of the Riflemen’s Union in Canada is not only the restoration of an organization. It is a living proof that Lithuanian identity, civic responsibility, and the willingness to serve the Homeland know no geographic boundaries.
