Special digital exhibition by Lithuanian Museum-Archives of Canada

On January 13th, 2021, Lithuania is marking the 30th anniversary of Freedom Defenders' Day to honor the memory of the victims of Soviet military aggression in Vilnius in 1991, when assault on Vilnius TV tower and Lithuanian Radio and Television resulted in the death of 14 civilians.

These ordinary citizens - the Defenders of Freedom - became a symbol of Lithuania’s victory in the fight for freedom. Lithuanian community in Canada was also vocal and active in securing the support for Lithuania’s aspirations in Canadian society.

To mark this year’s Day of Freedom Defenders Lithuanian Museum-Archives of Canada has opened the special digital exhibition “Democracy - One Defining Moment”. It reminds about the events in Lithuania, shows statements and actions taken by Lithuanian Community in Canada, provides publications in Canadian press and decisions of Canadian Government.

We invite you to visit this virtual exhibition on the website of Lithuanian Museum-Archives of Canada: https://www.lithuanianheritage.ca/january-13/
