STYLIZED PATTERNS OF WOVEN LITHUANIAN SASHES WILL SYMBOLIZE THE TWENTY YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE

The slogan ‘Believe in Freedom’ and stylized patterns of woven Lithuanian sashes will symbolise the twentieth anniversary of the Re-establishment of Lithuania’s Independence. The pattern is the main graphical symbol in the logo of the anniversary, which is celebrated this year.

The slogan ‘Believe in Freedom’ reflects the main value, which united the Lithuanian nation and helped it to keep alive the aspiration to re-establish the statehood and led towards the 11th of March in 1990.

For the creation of the logo, designer Giedrė Jaronytė has used the colours of the Lithuanian national flag, which represent country’s traditions, values and freedom.

The tiniest graphic elements of the logo - rectangles and squares – form a pattern with traditional motives, as if alluding to modern technologies such as a digital code. The original and modern expression of motives from the Lithuanian folk-art in the logo indicates an innovative state of Lithuania.

The ‘flying’ particles of the sign symbolize the ideas spread by Lithuania, the communication, freedom, dynamics and openness of the country to the world.

A competition to create the logo was organized by Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Lithuanian Association of Graphic Design. The Government of Lithuania approved the logo during its session on 20 January.

The logo will be used during the events marking the twentieth anniversary of the 11th of March, also in publications, posters, media and internet, on souvenirs and document forms of state institutions.
