TRAVEL TO CANADA VISA-FREE WILL REQUIRE A BIOMETRIC PASSPORT

Since 1 March 2008, citizens of Lithuania can travel to Canada for tourism purposes without a visa, but, since 1 January 2009, only Lithuanian citizens holding biometric passports, i.e. those, issued after 28 August 2006, with the additional electronic medium containing biometric data of the holder, will be able to travel visa-free.

Since 1 January 2009, Lithuanian citizens traveling to Canada without biometric passports will have to receive Canadian visa. Since 1 January 2011, only biometric passport holders will be permitted to enter Canada.

Biometric passports are also required for those Lithuanian citizens, who are planning to travel to U.S. for tourism purposes for a period not exceeding 90 days.

Visa-free regime with the U.S. is applied since 17 November 2008.
