U OF T STUDENT COMPLETES SUMMER INTERNSHIP AT THE LITHUANIAN EMBASSY

This summer the Embassy of Lithuania accepted its first intern, Darius Kuras, a student of international relations at the University of Toronto. Darius, who worked at the Embassy for seven weeks, completed the program on July 31st.

During the internship, he assisted Embassy staff with daily tasks, such as writing press summaries and analyses, drafting letters and responses to information inquiries and fulfilling other assignments. Darius also assisted with consular duties and helped organize Embassy events.

The summer internship program provided the intern the opportunity to see first-hand the workings of the Canadian Government and foreign diplomatic corps. Darius received tours of Parliament, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, attended diplomatic and academic functions and participated in a meeting chaired by the Swedish EU Presidency.

“This internship allowed me to gain hands-on experience in international politics and diplomacy. During the internship, I met with ambassadors, other members of the diplomatic community, Lithuanian and Canadian decision-makers, with whom I hope to maintain contact in the future,” said Darius Kuras.

The Lithuanian Embassy will continue the internship program instituted under Ambassador Ginte Damusis. Interested students are invited to apply. Further information about the internship can be downloaded from the Embassy website at www.lithuanianembassy.ca under “Embassy of Lithuania internship”.
