Celebration of Lithuania's Independence Day across Canada

Lithuanian Independence Day was widely celebrated across Canada on the initiative of the Lithuanian Embassy and Canadian Lithuanian organizations.

In Ottawa, Embassy hosted a festive reception attended by Canadian politicians, officials, foreign ambassadors, representatives of the Lithuanian community. On February 16th, Lithuanian flag was raised at the Ottawa City Hall. The Lithuanian community also held a concert for the occasion of Lithuanian Independence Day.

Lithuanians from British Columbia organized a hike in Vancouver to honor Lithuania's independence and a commemoration, during which they also paid tribute to the Lithuanian military veteran team that participated in Invictus Games. In Toronto, Lietuvių namai hosted a festive event and a concert by the Vilnius Quartet and pianist Ilona Beresnevičienė, featuring works by M. K. Čiurlionis. A Mass for Lithuania was held at Toronto's Lithuanian Resurrection Church, and an event took place at the senior club "Vilnius Manor." In Montreal, the Lithuanian community organized a concert by kanklės player Jausmė Elena Stonkutė.

On sunday, February 16th, Niagara Falls and Hamilton City Hall were illuminated in the colors of the Lithuanian flag.

Ambassador of Lithuania to Canada, Egidijus Meilūnas, thanked Lithuanians living in Canada for their support of Lithuania's freedom and their active participation in the creation of an independent Lithuania. He also called for continued support for Ukraine.
