It became easier to obtain and renew Lithuanian personal documents in Edmonton
From April 20, 2026, a new option will be available in Edmonton for Lithuanian citizens to handle personal documents more conveniently. For many, it will no longer be necessary to travel to the Lithuanian Embassy in Canada (Ottawa).
Those wishing to renew or obtain a personal document will only need to submit an application online (via their personal account at www.migracija.lt) and, after receiving confirmation, visit a VFS Global office.
This procedure will be available ONLY if:
- the person already has a Lithuanian ID card or passport (even if expired)
- the individual’s personal data has not changed
- the application is for issuing or renewing only an ID card
- when applying for a passport, an ID card is ordered at the same time
In all other cases, documents are issued and renewed only at the Lithuanian Embassy in Canada or during consular missions: in cases of lost or stolen documents, when applying for a first Lithuanian passport, when requesting only a passport, when renewing documents due to changes in personal data or upon acquiring Lithuanian citizenship, etc.
This alternative process for document renewal and issuance has already been successfully launched in Toronto and Vancouver since March.
