Official visit by the Ambassador to Manitoba

Ambassador of Lithuania to Canada Darius Skusevičius came to Manitoba for an official visit on November 17-18, 2021.

During the visit, the Ambassador met with The Honourable Janice C. Filmon, C.M., O.M. Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, Honourable Myrna Driedger, Speaker of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly, Honourable Kelvin Goertzen, Deputy Premier of Manitoba Minister for Legislative and Public Affairs, and Honourable Cathy Cox, Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage. This was the first official visit to Manitoba by Lithuanian representatives. The Ambassador also met with members of the Lithuanian community in Winnipeg, visited the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

“With the COVID situation improving, I am happy that I had the chance to meet with the leaders of the Province in person. I am certain that Lithuania and Manitoba can expand their economic and cultural collaboration, as well as collaboration in other fields. I am glad that the visit happened this year, when Lithuania and Canada are celebrating the 30th anniversary of restored diplomatic relations” - said H.E. Ambassador of Lithuania to Canada Darius Skusevičius after the visit.

The first Lithuanians came to Winnipeg in 1894. The first Lithuanian mutual aid organizations started operating 110 years ago (in 1911). Members of the community were actively involved in the social life of Winnipeg.
