Renewing Lithuanian identity documents in Canada becomes more convenient

In order to improve the accessibility and efficiency of services, it will become easier for Lithuanian citizens to renew their identity documents in Canada starting March 10.

This will be possible in Toronto and Vancouver, and from mid-April in Edmonton as well. For many people, it will no longer be necessary to travel to the Embassy of Lithuania in Canada (Ottawa).

Those wishing to renew their identity documents will only need to submit an application online (through their account at www.migracija.lt) and, after receiving confirmation, visit a VFS Global office in the selected city.

This procedure can be used ONLY if:

  • the person already has a Lithuanian ID card or passport (even if it has expired);
  • the citizen’s personal data has not changed;
  • the application is only for the renewal or issuance of an ID card;
  • when ordering a passport, an ID card is ordered at the same time.

In all other cases, documents are renewed and issued only at the Embassy of Lithuania in Canada or during consular missions, including when an identity document has been lost or stolen, when applying for a first Lithuanian passport, when applying for only a passport, when personal data has changed or Lithuanian citizenship has been acquired, etc.

Detailed information about the entire process is available on the website of the Embassy of Lithuania in Canada: https://ca.mfa.lt/konsuline-informacija/aktuali-informacija/asmens-dokumentu-keitimas-isores-paslaugu-centruose-kanadoje/156
